Finance Director

Reality LA is a non-denominational, gospel-centered church located in Hollywood, California. At Reality LA, the finance director works in the operations department for the church and its related events. The Finance Director collaborates with the operations department in overseeing financial, corporate, risk management, and legal projects.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Full-charge bookkeeping

  • Ensuring the proper completion of the full cycle of accounting duties, including deposits, disbursements, cash flow,  payroll, depreciation, closing, and reconciliation
  • Interfacing with external auditors during annual reviews

Implementing and enhancing rigorous internal controls

Managing Finance Team Leads for Sunday collections

Overseeing expense management for church staff, including expense reports and receipts

Asset management

  • Maintaining a detailed database of church assets
  • Calculating and booking related depreciation and disposal

Other financial, corporate, or legal projects as assigned by the Director of Stewardship or Executive Pastor

Stewardship and administration of the finances at Reality LA

  • Preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual financial documents
  • Consults  and provides accountability to the annual budget 
  • Accounts payable, accounts receivable, and vendor relations 
  • Completes all quarterly and annual filings with local, state, and federal government agencies
  • Completion of the quarterly board of equalization filings
  • Manage Reality LA’s savings, investments, and credit as directed by the director of stewardship
  • Administration of office, tenant, and building leases
  • Work to minimize RLA, staff, and congregation’s exposure to liability

Communication  with givers

  • Managing annual giving statement administration


  • Love for Jesus and his church
  • Agreement with the statement of faith, theology, and philosophy of Reality LA 
  • Character and lifestyle of a deacon as described in Scripture
  • Love for ministry in an urban context and for the city of Los Angeles
  • Bachelors in Business Administration and/or Finance and/or 5+ years finance or executive experience strongly preferred

Knowledge and Skills

  • Deep understanding of the Bible and Christian doctrines
  • Leadership ability in a highly collaborative environment
  • Deep understanding of financial statements and accounting principals
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial spirit in developing and improving systems and materials
  • Eagerness to serve with humility, generosity, and kindness 
  • Adaptability to growth and change 

Schedule: Sunday - Thursday

Salary: DOE

Hours: ~45 per week (including special events, meetings, etc.)

Supervises: Accounting independent contractors

Benefits: Medical, Dental, Workers Comp

Discretionary Time Off: PTO, two weeks on call at Christmas

Reports to: Executive Pastor
